Roebellini Palm
Size: 8'-10' H x 5'-6' W.
Habit of Growth: Pygmy date palm grow slowly reaching heights of 8-10 ft (2.4-3.1 m). The stem is covered with old leaf bases and is topped with a dense head of bright green pinnate leaves that grow to about 4 ft (1.2 m) in length. Lower leaflets are modified into sharp pointed 2-3 in (5-8 cm) spines.
Light Requirements: Bright sun to partial shade.
Soil Requirements: Moist, well drained soil comprised mostly of organic matter/topsoil and sand.
Water Requirements: Needs adequate moisture for best look. Has some drought tolerance when mature.
Cold Tolerance: USDA Zones 9 - 11. May be cold damaged at temperatures below 30 F.
Landscape Uses: Use clumps of these palms as specimens and to serve as focal point in a mass planting of annuals. Also nice combined with evergreen shrubs in a mixed hedge.
Special Attributes: Small stature, delicate lacy appearance and easy care make this an exceptional palm that everyone can enjoy, whether in the landscape or indoor containers.
